About the Montana Roofing Association

The Montana Roofing Association was formed in 1988, as the Montana Roofing Contractors Association. It was later incorporated in 1991. The founding companies of the Association were, All State Roofing, Bradford Roofing, Thomas Built Up Roofing, Thiel Brothers Roofing, Merit Mechanical, Quality Roofing, Empire Heating and Cooling, Missoula Sheet Metal, and Maddox Roofing. The goal of the Association was to bring roofing contractors together from across the state and to provide them with education on the laws, regulations and rules affecting the roofing industry, and to educate them on the newest trends of roofing and products in the industry. Over the years the Montana Roofing Association has grown its membership to allow manufacturers, distributors, and architects to become full members and hold board positions.

The Montana Roofing Association works hard, through various committees, to keep up with the changing laws and regulations regarding the roofing industry, as well as, staying current with local and state laws, code changes, and State Fund regulations. Each year we hold a trade show and convention that provides many educational seminars for our members to enjoy. Some of the past seminars include, Personal Protective Equipment & Forklift Certifications, Succession Planning, Single Ply Membrane Details, Independent Contractor Regulations, How to Figure Overhead, and many others. The trade show is a chance for different manufacturers and suppliers to showcase the newest products in the market and industry.

In 1994, the Montana Roofing Association started a scholarship program, for its members and families, and employees who wish to pursue further education. Since then, the program has grown to grant over $40,000 in scholarships, with funds coming from the trade show and yearly golf outing. In 2013, the Association lost one of its long time members and Past President, Cameron Sauter. At that time, the  scholarship was renamed the Cameron Sauter Memorial Scholarship.

The Association is always looking to give back to the local communities, in any way they can. Previous projects included re-roofing two housing units for the Special K Ranch, a working ranch for adults with developmental disabilities. Various Habitat for Humanity projects, and working with the Warriors and Quiet Waters Foundation, an organization that brings veterans to Montana to fly fish some of Montana’s Blue-Ribbon Rivers. We are always looking for more ways to give back to our communities.

Thanks for your interest in the Montana Roofing Association.  Feel free to look through our members list and to contact a local member with any questions you may have.
